Hospital Thrift Shop: Celebrating 90 Years of Serving Our Community
Volunteers and board members mark the Hospital Thrift Shop’s ninetieth year, from the first check it sent the hospital in 1929 — $603 — to a running total of $5,275,043. The shop moved five times before the board bought 17 India Street for $7,500; the house dates to about 1792, and caring for it — helped by a Community Preservation Committee grant that then-president Cathy Ward applied for in 2015 — remains one of the board’s main responsibilities. Behind the scenes, volunteers ready the workroom for a donation day, on which the whole operation depends.
