Nantucket Sports Connection brings you Varsity High School Football as the Whalers welcome the Dolphins from the Lower Cape.
These two teams have flipped their respective scripts this season, as a rejuvenated lineup has seen the Dolphins (4-1, #8 in Division 6) on an unbeaten tear with three league wins so far with three to go. They are coming off a 23-14 road win over Sandwich last Friday.
A win today will all but secure a Cape & Islands League title for D-Y, taking it away from the Whalers, who’ve gone from an unbeaten regular season in 2025 to a 1-3 record and a #24 ranking in the same division this year. Only a string of lopsided wins today, next week on the road at Sandwich and back home for the Island Cup on Halloween would give Nantucket any mathematical chance at qualifying for the MIAA tournament.
In the highest scoring affair of last season, the Whalers prevailed 49-22 over Dennis-Yarmouth 364 days ago in a sloppy game for both squads. The Dolphins still hold a 3-2 advantage in head-to-head competition with a combined score of 129-83.
The Dolphins finished 3-8 last year, a far cry from their 8-3 season in 2024 that saw them enter the Div. 6 tourney as the #11 seed.
Our live coverage begins at 4:45 with kickoff set for 5:15pm from Vito Capizzo Stadium, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.
[This game was originally scheduled for October 16, but was moved due to weather.]
Nantucket Sports Connection hits the road with the Whalers varsity football squad as they play their final road game of the regular season against the Blue Knights from the Upper Cape.
From the heights of the Cape & Islands League last year — when Nantucket clinched the title on Homecoming night 363 days ago against Sandwich, who they mauled 34-14 in a turnover-drenched matchup — these two teams have lost 4 and 5 straight games, respectively. They are both on the outside looking in for the upcoming MIAA tournament, ranked #23 and #21 in Division 6.
The Whalers (1-4) are looking for redemption and their first league win after consecutive losses to Falmouth, Nauset and Dennis-Yarmouth; the Blue Knights (1-5) have likewise lost to the Dolphins and Clippers, as well as the Crusaders from Cape Cod Tech this month.
Sandwich sat out the 2025 playoffs with a #19 final power ranking, and wound up 5-5 on the season after a 12-6 consolation game loss to Wareham and a 36-22 drubbing by Mashpee on Thanksgiving. Overall the Blue Knights have a 5-3 advantage over the Whalers in the modern history of the two programs.
Our live coverage begins at 3:15 with kickoff set for 3:45pm from Gerald F DeConto Stadium, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.

The Whalers (5-4, #49 in Division 3) were one for two on their road trips last week, besting Rising Tide 3-0 on Wednesday before falling in similar straight sets to Mashpee on Friday. This is the first of three consecutive games this week as Nantucket enters the second half of its season.
The Storm (3-6, #36 in Division 4) have dropped two of their last three, falling to Monomoy and Cape Cod Tech, their lone win also against Rising Tide in straight sets.
Sturgis East broke a ten game losing streak in head-to-head play against the Whalers, winning three sets to one on Sept. 17, 2025 — only their second-ever win on island, while Nantucket holds an overall 11-8 advantage. Last season saw them sneak into the Division 4 tournament with a 9-7 record, quickly falling 3-1 to Mashpee in the preliminary round.

Nantucket Sports Connection presents the Whalers Varsity Girls Volleyball team as they welcome the Navigators from across the sound in Hyannis.
The Whalers (6-4, #49 in Division 3) bested the *other* Sturgis team three sets to one yesterday. This is nonetheless a crucial game for Nantucket to stay above .500 and secure a play-in game for the tournament — which would be the first time in three seasons in general, and their debut in Div. 3 overall.
The Navigators (1-8, #49 in Division 4) have been on the skids this whole season, only managing their lone victory over Rising Tide; Sturgis West fell to Nantucket at home 3-0 on Sept. 28. They did sweep the series against the Whalers last season, including a straight-sets victory here on island on Oct. 8, 2025.
We are live from John J. O’Neill Gymnasium at 3:45 for the pregame show with tipoff set for 4pm, presented on the Nantucket Sports Connection YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.

The Nantucket Sports Connection presents the playoff-bound Whalers Varsity Girls Volleyball team! They host Nauset as the Warriors head south for this Cape and Islands matchup.
The Whalers (9-5, #49 in Division 3) have secured a trip to the postseason for the second time during Coach Mikayla Lyons tenure on-island, after taking down Muniz Academy 3-0 Saturday, and St. John Paul 3-1 Monday. Both victories came on the road, and have guaranteed a .500 or better finish for NHS — a first for Coach Lyons crew. According to MIAA rules, a team must be in top 32 in their division power rankings, or finish .500 or better to make the postseason.
The Warriors (5-8, #57 in Division 3) have won four of their last five after a 1-7 start. With only two matches left, Nauset cannot clinch a playoff berth through their record, but they’ll look to keep the good times rolling on the Grey Lady.
Nantucket defeated Nauset in five sets in their first game of the season, in a thrilling victory on Cape Cod. Both captains excelled, with Bozkova notching 14 kills and Pires making 16 digs to go with her four kills. Canty recorded seven kills, and Acosta knotted 12 digs along with four aces. A whole-team effort got them in the win column in five sets, winning the final set 15-13. The Whalers look to complete the season sweep.
We are live from John J. O’Neill Gymnasium at 4:15 for the pregame show with tipoff set for 4:30pm, presented on the Nantucket Sports Connection YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.

The Whalers enter the tournament as the #9 seed in Division 4 after an impressive 13-3-2 regular season record. They have won 5 of their last 6 games -- outscoring their opposition 27-4. The lone loss came at the hands of the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins (seeded #6 in Division 3). Head coaches Dan and Beth Weber have made the postseason four years in a row and are led by a core group of 7 seniors.

Nantucket Sports Connection brings you live coverage of our fifth different varsity sports contest of the 2026-27 season, namely Nantucket Whalers Varsity Field Hockey! These ladies are in the fight for a spot in the MIAA Division 3 Tournament for only the second time ever, but first are tasked with taking down the Lions from across the sound in Hyannis.
Nantucket (5-8-3, #27 in Div. 3) has qualified for postseason competition in each of the last five seasons, and last year entered Division 3 for the first time. The Whalers have put themselves in position for a playoff push as the season comes to a close. After only one win through their first nine games, Nantucket has won four of its last six contests, with two matches left in the regular season.
Despite the current sub-.500 record, the Whalers’ power ranking is impressive due to strength of schedule against a slew of tough opponents. Nantucket needs to finish in the top 32 of those rankings to make the playoffs or finish with a .500 record or better to at least make a play-in game. Wins in their final two games against St. John Paul II today and Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday can help cement a trip back to the playoffs for Coach Dan Weber’s squad.
Nantucket will look to finish the season sweep today, as the Whalers slew the Lions 6-3 on the road last Friday. This ties a season high in goals scored from their senior night matchup, a 6-0 drubbing of Sturgis East, where Nantucket came out explosive with three goals in the first quarter. Two goals from Evelyn Phelps, two more from Rowan Paul, one from Aliana Davis, and Ava Watson netting her first varsity goal. Every senior had either a goal or an assist, besides goalkeeper Magdalena Gonzalez, who got the shutout win.
St. John Paul II (5-7-4, #18 in Div. 4) is playing their final game of the season in a busy week that saw them fall to Dennis-Yarmouth on Monday before tieing Nauset on Tuesday & Barnstable yesterday. The Lions trail the Whalers 6-2-3 in head-to-head competition over the last decade, with their last win on island a 1-0 thriller on Oct. 21, 2022.
Our live coverage begins at 3:30 with center pass set for 3:45 from the Sparks Field Hockey Field, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.

For their part this 1-0-1 Nauset squad defeated Dennis-Yarmouth in league play to open their season last Thursday, followed by a scoreless tie against Scituate, a team that made it to the Div. 3 semifinals a year ago.
The Whalers went 11-5-2 last year, entering the Division 3 tournament for the first time, continuing their streak of postseason competition since the MIAA reformed the old sectional system. Despite their record besting several Top 32 teams, Nantucket was seeded #34 and fell to Assabet Valley 2-1 in the preliminary round. They tied the Warriors with no score in their last trip to the island on Oct. 28.
The Warriors posted a 6-8-4 record in 2025, leaving them at #38 in Div. 3 and on the the outside looking in for the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Their program has seen its share of successes, including two state titles in 2016 & 2018, and Nauset holds an 8-1-1 advantage over Nantucket.

The Nantucket Sports Connection brings you the Whalers varsity boys soccer squad as they take on the Blue Knights from the Upper Cape in the penultimate home match of the regular season.
Nantucket has slid into this week’s power rankings as the #9 team in Division 3, and slid is the correct word - they’ve slipped up over the last couple of weeks. Once at No. 3 in the power rankings, the Whalers have only won once in their last five matchups. A 2-2 draw to Abington on-island, a 4-3 loss at St. Mary’s up in Lynn, a 3-0 defeat to Monomoy here on the NSC, then finally a 2-0 win over Dennis-Yarmouth. But then on Saturday NHS headed up to East Boston High School, and lost 3-2 after coming back to tie it down 2-0 on two goals by Aldo Lemus, assisted by Calvin Guevara.
Nantucket fell to 9-4-1, but are 8-1 in the Cape & Islands League (Atlantic Division). And that’s what they’ll return to today with their matchup versus their Upper Cape opposition in Sandwich.
The Blue Knights have had a tough season, but they come into this game off of a 10-0 win at South Shore Charter. The only issue is that they had a streak of 11 straight matches without a win prior to that blowout win, and are 1-10-1. They come in at No. 46 in this week’s MIAA power rankings. They now look to play spoiler against the Whalers, and get the win of their season on-island.
Nantucket bested the Blue Knights 2-0 on the road on October 2, and will look to secure the season sweep, and will look to make it five straight victories over Sandwich. They haven’t ended a game without a victory against this squad from the Upper Cape since a 3-3 draw in 2022, and haven’t lost outright since at least Covid.
The Blue Knights had a disastrous 2-14-3 season last year, including 3-2 and 2-0 losses to the Whalers off and on island, respectively. Nantucket enjoys a 7-1-1 record in head-to-head play, including an undefeated record on island.
The last postseason appearance by Sandwich was in the 2023 Div. 3 tourney, where they beat Essex North 2-1 in the preliminary round before falling 6-1 to Ashland in the Round of 32.
Our live coverage begins at 3:45pm from the Surfside Soccer Field, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.

Nantucket (15-3) is ranked #2 in Division 4 and enters their seventh consecutive postseason tournament with a squad featuring 13 seniors, most of whom were on the 2024 state championship team. Their only losses on the season were against tough higher division teams from Nauset, Falmouth & Shrewsbury.
Monomoy (6-13) squeaked in at #31 and had to face a preliminary round competitor from #34 Monson, who came out to the Cape from Western Mass on a stormy Sunday afternoon looking for an upset, forcing Monomoy into overtime before falling 8-7.
The Sharks have yet to score a single goal on the Whalers this season, falling by a combined score of 33-0 in their pair of regular season faceoffs, the latest of their seven consecutive losses in head-to-head play. While managing a single road victory in 2018, the Sharks have yet to win after crossing the water.
The Whalers graduated six seniors at the end of a dramatic tournament run last year. After a 12-5 regular season record, Nantucket entered the Division 4 playoffs as the #4 seed, sweeping aside Lenox, Sandwich and Ipswich in succession before once again facing their longtime nemesis, the Skippers, who bested them 11-2 before falling to Norwell in the state title game. This was the third time Cohasset has knocked Nantucket out of postseason play, having done so before in 2015 & 2019 — but due to the bracket structure this year, the Whalers will not face the Skippers all the way through the tournament until the state title game.
Live coverage begins at 1:45 with the first draw scheduled for 2pm from Vito Capizzo Stadium, coming to you live both on the NSC YouTube channel as well as on NCTV HD Channel 1072.
